"Join the Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers and Dr. Nahid Nasrat for a Q&A session about supporting clients who are experiencing substance use/misuse. The Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers is hosting this Ask An Expert session in partnership with Switchboard.
Dr. Nahid Nasrat is a psychologist and full professor in the Doctoral Clinical Psychology Program at the Chicago School, Washington, DC. She is currently serving as the International Visiting Professor and Scholar at Leeds Beckett University, UK.
In addition to teaching and mentoring students for over 20 years, Dr. Nasrat is a diversity expert providing training and conducting research on diversity issues in clinical psychology, including refugees and immigrants’ psycho-social well-being in conflict and post-conflicts countries. Dr. Nasrat was the recipient of the Outstanding Dissertation Award, which was a clinical manual for mental health professionals working with Afghan refugee women.
Dr. Nasrat is the Past-President of American Psychological Association, Division 48, Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict, and Violence- Peace Psychology (2021). Dr. Nasrat is the recipient of the 2015 Ignacio Matin Baró Lifetime Peace Practitioner Award presented by the Society for the Study of Peace and Conflict in recognition of her lifetime achievement as a peace practitioner. In 2016, she received the Anthony J. Marsella Prize for the Psychology of Peace and Social Justice in recognizing her outstanding psychology-based contributions in scholarship and actions in peace, human rights, and social action.
This session will be an informal, discussion format. There will be no slides or presentation, but an opportunity for participants to ask any questions they have about substance use/misuse.
