Registration: https://healthinalldata.com/event/health-data-dialogues-learning-series/
“Join us to learn and connect with a multidisciplinary community of health sector professionals working to harness data’s power in healthcare and ensure that all innovation strives to be fair and inclusive. We will support participants in understanding how health data can benefit health outcomes, and also perpetuate disparities and even cause harm to already vulnerable and marginalized communities.
We approach this work with curiosity and compassion and help leaders across the health system steward equity and design inclusive digital health solutions.
Four-part learning series: September 12, 14, 19, and 21 from 12-1pm EST over Zoom.
This learning experience is limited to 50 health sector professionals to create conditions for dialogue and interaction. We welcome individuals working across the system including designers, developers, health care management, clinicians, policymakers, and health tech innovators.
Over the four sessions we will bring together research and industry experts to discuss topics including:
- A comprehensive approach to health data management focusing on the determinants of health
- The spectrum of technologies used to collect health data
- The concept of surveillance as an artifact of health data use and perceptions of surveillance across different communities
- Building a shared language around equity and inclusion in the design of digital health solutions
- The digital literacy divide and unpacking informed consent in digital health
- Structures for patient data ownership, transparency, and accountability
- Governance and regulatory challenges
These dialogues will be facilitated with infographics and case studies that professionals can take back to their teams. We anticipate that these dialogues will help leaders to steward ongoing reflection on equitable and ethical data use within and among their respective organizations and sectors.
Our team: This learning series is produced by a group of interdisciplinary researchers based at Western University in Canada and funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Description :

Canada’s healthcare systems have evolved throughout the course of our country’s history. Each provincial and federal government have added elements to the systems with the intention for improvement. Alongside these developments, Canada is accepting more and more newcomers and is experiencing more older Canadians retiring than ever before. This leads to an influx of Internationally Trained Medical Graduates (IMGs) and Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) as well as a decline in Canadian trained physicians and nurses. Some newcomers to Canada want to use their education from their country of origin prior to immigration and seek to become certified and employable in our healthcare systems. Such steps and methods may be tedious for the newcomer and when presented in a language they may not be as familiar with, confusion in steps required to obtain a professional role as a physician or nurse in Canada can occur.
This webinar, presented by Dr. Zubin Austin of the University of Toronto, will provide a historical context from an Ontario perspective of the work that has occurred to assist in IMG and IEN integration as well as the barriers that IMGs and IENs experience when attempting to gain employment in Canada as a physician or nurse respectively.
This webinar will also present:
- Government actions over history that led to various programs and initiatives to allow IEHPs the opportunity to work as a nurse or physician in our healthcare systems
- Methods to help integrate current IMGs and IENs across Canada
- What can N4 Members do to assist IMGs and/or IENs obtain appropriate certifications in your local area

Registration: Anti-racist and anti-oppression approaches when working with newcomers Registration, Fri, 16 Sep 2022 at 12:00 PM | Eventbrite
"
Description:
The diversity of immigrants and refugees to Canada has increased substantially, leading to a racially and ethnically diverse population. Between 2011 and 2016, source countries for newcomers to Canada were from the continents of Africa and Asia. Recently, the country has received refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Health, settlement and social services are essential for newcomers' successful settlement and integration. Social services link new immigrants and refugees to essential services for their daily needs, and healthcare provides access to primary health and other health promotion programs. However, there is an inherent power differential that exits between the newcomer service user and service providers. How can providers deliver services in a mutually respectful relationship when the newcomer is from a different race, culture or class? Join this webinar to learn about:
• Racism and its effects on mental health
• Intersecting identifies
• Power and privilege
• Working from an anti-oppression and anti-racism approach"
