"The mental health of immigrants, especially that of refugees, is an emerging concern. Research has shown mental health to be a leading cause of hospitalization among Canadian immigrants, especially refugees. This event presents results from collaborative studies between Statistics Canada and IRCC on mental health–related hospitalization among permanent and temporary residents in Canada. It also showcases how linking IRCC administrative data to hospital discharge records can help monitor migrant health and help with policy decisions.
The presentation aims to answer three important questions:
How do mental health–related hospitalization rates among permanent residents vary by admission class, year of arrival and region of origin?
Is the pattern of mental health hospitalization different between permanent residents and temporary residents?
What other health conditions brought immigrants and temporary residents to hospitals besides mental health?"
