"This session will feature the work of the Assiniboia Residential Schoool Legacy Group, introduced by Elder Mabel Horton, a former student of Winnipeg's first Residential High School. Elder Mabel will open the session in a traditional way and share about her role working with the board of directors at Assiniboia Residential School Legacy Group over the last decade, and her current role as co-president.  Executive Director Ada Uddoh will provide insight into the work of the group over the past year, and present examples of reconciliation in action between the board, all levels of government, other businesses and non-profit organizations, as well as everyday Winnipeg citizens.

Key topics:

  • Brief history of colonization, residential schools, 60's Scoop & Millennial Scoop
  • Truth & Reconciliation Commission & resulting Calls to Action
  • Work of Assiniboia Residential School Legacy Group & examples of Reconciliation in Action
  • 7 Calls to Action that you can implement in your organization

Who Should Attend: This session is designed for anyone (staff, volunteers, etc.) in the newcomer-serving sector looking to deepen their knowledge of reconciliation and Canada's history of colonization.
