"SAISIA PD Opportunity
SAISIA is happy to share an upcoming professional development opportunity with the Saskatchewan sector. On Friday, September 27, 2024 from 2:00-3:30 pm, Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (SDHHS) will offer a webinar as part of SAISIA’s participation in the GBA Plus National Capacity project funded by IRCC.
The webinar will be held on Zoom and led by Alanda Mcleod and Rae-Mairi Richardson, Sign Support Professionals with SDHHS. The session will be delivered in American Sign Language, with interpretation services provided. The first part of the webinar will feature an overview of SDHHS’ services and supports available across the province to those who are D/deaf or hard of hearing, which newcomers and their families may benefit from. The second part will include an introduction to Deaf Culture in Canada and a discussion of how cultural norms in Deaf communities differ from those of hearing communities as well as a discussion on how audism may impact newcomers pre- and post-arrival. There will be time at the end of the webinar for Q&A.
Please circulate this invite within your organizations. You can register for this webinar by emailing our GBA Plus Research Coordinator, Amber Parker at amber.parker@saisia.ca with your name and the name of your organization, as well as your job title. Registrations will be accepted until Thursday, Sept. 26."
