"OCASI-PSI is excited to host guest speakers from the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) who willexamine the understanding of conversion practices and their impacts on immigrant queer and trans youth in Canada and how it extends globally through an intersectional lens. Attendees will receive an overview of Bill C-4, the new federal bill on conversion practices and the offences under this new bill. They will also unpack the limitations and the gaps of Bill C-4, particularly on how it impacts racialized and immigrant queer and trans youth. This session will be informed by the CCGSD's newest project in partnership with the Canadian Department of Justice, titled “Challenging Conversion Practices.”
Through reflection questions and interactive activities, attendees will have an opportunity to reflect on ways to support immigrant and refugee youth within their respective spaces. By the end of this webinar, participants will better understand the impact of conversion practices on immigrant queer and trans youth in Canada and globally through an intersectional lens. They will also be equipped with strategies to support their clients and identify how organizations like the CCGSD can support them. There will be a Q&A period at the end of the session."
