"We’ve all seen, and may have even experienced, the growing devastation extreme climate events have caused around the world, from historic floods in Pakistan, unprecedented droughts in China and Europe, and intense forest fires in Canada, Australia and even the Amazon.
As climate change worsens in the coming years, it is likely they will increasingly make areas of the planet uninhabitable and force many people to move both nationally and internationally.
This new era of climate-related migration will create new practical and policy challenges for local and national governments. Our upcoming New Perspectives event aims to identify what these challenges will be and what role Canada could play in addressing climate migration.
We have an amazing panel of speakers to discuss this topic. Warda Shazadi Meighen from Landings LLP is joined by Dr Alison Shaw from SFU and Patrick Michell, former chief of the Kanaka Band in Lytton, BC. They will also be moderated by Laura Lynch from CBC.
This event is in partnership with the Ismaili Centre of Vancouver and CBC.
We want to hear from you, so please send your questions in the field below to ensure the panel addresses them during the event."
